Take the time

on September 16, 2013

This song is on Mercy me’s newest album with Bear Rinehart from NeedtoBreathe. While I would obviously love this song for the sole reason that Bear sings the 2nd verse and helps out in the chorus, it’s a good song for more reasons than just that. We’ve all heard and read Matthew 25:34-45 where Jesus states that what we do to the least of these we do to Him and what we don’t do to the least of these we don’t do to Him. This song is about that very passage of scripture and I think that it does a good job of hitting on one of the points that stops us from helping the least of these.

Time is something we greatly value, something that we put in the place of God often. We only have so many hours in a day, a week, a month, a year, and in our lives but unfortunately so often we don’t use it well. I know in my own life I get wrapped up in my schedule and the things that I need to get done that I forget to “take the time” as this song says. This song is convicting for me and reminds me to slow down, to look for the least of these. The way I live portrays that I think that the least of these are going to find me and come ask me for help. While that may occasionally be the case and I need to be ready to help when that happens, I need to have my eyes open to the needs around me.
I hope that you enjoy this song as much as I do, and that you enjoy Bart Millard and Bear Rinehart singing together but most of all I hope that this song makes you think.

With love,

Meg
